I love making things homemade! Whether it is food, lotions, or even cleaning supplies, it is so empowering to be able to create your own products and not rely on store bought. It allows you to create exactly what you want, customized to your specific needs and preferences. Plus, it is easy, and will save you money.
Making DIY Homemade cleaners may not be quite as exciting as creating something decadent like body butter, but it is satisfying to reduce exposure to toxic and harsh chemicals, and it will simplify and declutter your cleaning cabinet. I have made the recipes listed below and have been very happy with the results. I appreciate that with just a few simple ingredients you can create a variety of homemade cleaners.
My natural cleaning necessities:
- baking soda (I buy a big bag of it from Costco)
- vinegar (I buy a huge jug from Costco)
- castile liquid soap like this
- essential oils click here for more info
- All Purpose Cleaning Spray click here
- Glass Cleaner click here
- Bathroom Cleaners click here
- Spray Air Freshener click here
- Wood Polish click here
- Mattress or Carpet Cleaner click here
- Foaming Hand Soap click here
To clean my floors I simply use hot water and a good splash of vinegar and about 10 drops of essential oil. I rotate between a variety of different oils to help with dirt and to cut the vinegar smell.
Bottles, Spray Tops, etc
Need supplies like glass spray bottles, spray tops, or any of the items listed? If you are using essential oils it is important to only store them in glass or stainless steel containers because they can break down plastic. I recommend either saving glass bottles and finding a spray top that fits, or purchasing bottles new. You may be able to find them locally at a health food or here are links on amazon for 8 oz glass spray bottle and 16 oz glass spray bottle
Have you made the switch over to green cleaners? It is easy and an important step in your journey towards more natural living!
